PROFILE
PAUL GRAHAM - Fine Art Photography
I am a photographer, working in 35mm color and black & white photography, as well as color, black & white, and sepia tone digital photography. I got bitten by the photography bug as a 12 year old when I won my first camera playing darts at a street festival!
As a photography major at Ohio State University from 1975-1976, I had the opportunity and good fortune to study with Harry Callahan, Ardine Nelson, and James Friedman, all of whom had a great influence on me. I am a member of the Ohio Art League, the Worthington Area Art League, Digital Artists of Columbus, and the Ohio Arts Council Online Visual Artists Registry.
Though I ended up not getting a degree in photography, I have continued to practice the art and craft of photography for the past 30+ years, mostly for my own enjoyment. Except for a few instances of photojournalism over the years and the occasional photo contest, it wasn’t until 2002 at the prompting of a friend that I started to do art festival types of events.
From 2002 to the present, I have been included in many gallery and other art exhibits around central Ohio, including shows put on by the Ohio Art League, the Worthington Area Art League, the Columbus Aids Task Force “Art For Life” benefit, the Ohio Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, the High Road Gallery, the Worthington Historical Society, the Columbus "Alive" Photo Contests and Exhibits, the Knox County Art League, the Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibit, Mac Worthington’s Gallerie, the Delaware Arts Castle, the Fifth Ave. Galleries and Custom Framing , Eclectik Framing and Gallery, and Studio 16.
I focus on no specific subject matter, though photographing areas where I travel tends to reveal a theme of photographing the natural world in my work. I am most interested in the qualities of light. I try to capture real moments in time and try to show different perspectives of everyday scenes or objects. I like to juxtapose reality and unreality in images. However, I am not a practitioner of the art of manipulating either 35mm or digital photographs. My photos are as seen or are unintended accidents that can be used to this end.
